Whitewater Halts Yellowjackets Winning Streak at Six

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Sunday marked the second day of an eight game in four days stretch that the Yellowjacket softball team is in the midst of. After sweeping Crown College on Saturday, the Yellowjackets took on UW-Whitewater riding a six-game winning streak and were looking to extend it to eight.

UW-Whitewater 4, UW-Superior 0

The first game of the double header did not go quite as planned for the Yellowjackets.

With three regulars out of the lineup due to injury, the Yellowjacket offense struggled as they only managed two hits.

This did not matter to the Warhawks, as they scored a run in each of the first three innings against Yellowjacket starter Sarah Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld). UW-Whitewater would score one more run in the sixth, as they defeated the Yellowjackets 4-0.

Hendrickson pitched the complete game for the Yellowjackets, allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits. Hendrickson is now 11-3 on the season.

Sasha Fjeran (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) and Kari Shipman (Detroit Lakes, Minn./Frazee) had the hits for the Yellowjackets.

UW-Whitewater 8, UW-Superior 2

The second game of the day played out much like the first.

Whitewater opened up the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Yellowjackets were able to cut that deficit to 3-2 on one swing thanks to Ciarra Taipale (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld)'s sixth homerun of the year.

Unfortuanetly, Taipale's 2-run shot was all that the offense could muster, as the Warhawks would score three in the third, and one in each the fourth and the fifth to defeat the Yellowjackets 8-2.

Katie White (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes) got the start for the Yellowjackets, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits, while walking two and striking out two in the complete game effort. White is now 2-2 on the season.

The Yellowjackets (17-9, 6-0 UMAC) will be back in action Monday, April 18 when they play host to rival St. Scholastica. The first pitch from Liebaert Field is set for 3:00 p.m.
