2016-17 UMAC Women's Basketball Awards (March 1, 2017)
After its second-straight undefeated Upper Midwest Athletic Conference championship season, the University of Wisconsin Superior placed five players on the 2016-17 All-UMAC teams including junior guard
Hailey Kontny (Superior, Wis./Superior H.S.) earning the title of UMAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and first-year forward
Eva Reinertsen (Duluth, Minn./Homeschooled) claiming UMAC Freshman of the Year honors
Kontny landed on the All-UMAC First Team for the second-straight year in addition to her individual award, joined by sophomore forward
Hannah Norlin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield H.S.). Kontny finished seventh in the conference while leading the Yellowjackets averaging 14.5 points per game. She also grabbed 5.7 boards per outing while seeing the court in 24.2 minutes per game. Norlin finished top-10 in the league in rebounding and 11th in the UMAC in scoring as she averaged 13.2 points and 6.6 rebounds.
Junior forward Justin Larson, last weekend named the UMAC Tournament MVP, lands on the All-UMAC Second Team as well as the All-Defensive Team in 2016-17. Larson served a shut-down defender for UW-Superior all season while also averaging 6.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. She grabbed 56 steals finishing sixth-best in the conference while averaging 2.2 on the season. She also averaged 2.5 assists per game.
Reinertsen earned an All-UMAC Honorable Mention in addition to being named the league's top rookie. Junior forward
Bailee Bartunek (Audobon, Minn./Lake Park-Audobon H.S.) joined her on the Honorable Mention selections and earned the UMAC Sportsmanship Award as the Yellowjacket representative. Reinertsen averaged 9.5 points off the bench for UW-Superior, shooting 44.9 percent on the season including 46.8 percent from three-point range, where she has knocked down 44-of-94 shots this season. Bartunek ranked fourth in the UMAC at 7.7 rebounds per outing.
The University of Minnesota Morris bench boss Tim Grove earned the title of UMAC Coach of the Year.

UW-Superior (23-4) will meet the No. 2 University of St. Thomas on Friday in the NCAA Tournament. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in St. Paul, Minnesota.
