This Week in Yellowjacket Athletics (5/11/2017)

Last Week's Highlights
- First-team selections Saige Patrick (Steinbach, Man./St. Mary's Academy) and Ciarra Taipale (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld H.S.) highlight several Yellowjackets honored in this week's 2017 All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Awards.
- Sophomore Travis Miller (Whittier, Calif./La Serna H.S.) earned the title of UMAC Baseball Player of the Week, the second player from the University of Wisconsin Superior honored this season.
- Sophomore Valerie Rowe (Ironwood, Mich./A.D. Johnston H.S.) was named the UMAC Women's Track Athlete of the Meet as one of four Yellowjackets to receive All-UMAC selections.
- Senior Alex Fathie (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall H.S.) was named the UMAC Men's Track Athlete of the Meet as one of ten Yellowjackets to receive All-UMAC selections.

Baseball (15-25, 9-7 UMAC)
- After a thrilling finish to the conference season that saw UW-Superior win four-straight to steal the fourth seed in the UMAC - literally, as senior Chad Patko (Stone Lake, Wis./Hayward H.S.) swiped home to give the Yellowjackets a walk-off win on Sunday - UWS faces stiff competition this weekend as the team travels across the bridge to take on the top-seeded No. 25 College of St. Scholstica. The undefeated Saints had the number of every team during the UMAC regular season, defeating the Yellowjackets 11-3 last time out in Duluth. Win or lose, UW-Superior will live on to Friday in the double-elimination tournament, taking on either Bethany Lutheran College or the University of Minnesota Morris, who compete on the other side of the bracket Thursday. The Vikings defeated the Yellowjackets 8-1 and 16-8 on April 29, while the Cougars stole a pair from UWS, 7-4 and 7-6 back on April 17.

Men's and Women's Track & Field
- With the conference tournament in the rear-view mirror, the Yellowjackets will head to La Crosse, Wisconsin twice in the next two weeks for last-chance NCAA Tournament  qualifying events hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse including Friday's Eagle Open.
