'Jackets No.2 in men's soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll

2017 Preseason Coaches' Poll | 2016 Statistics | 2016 Standings

ST. PAUL (August 29, 2017) – Superior men's soccer will bring back a ton of talent this season, to take the number two spot in the UMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The Yellowjackets took second in the poll with 58 points and two first-place votes. A year ago, the Yellowjackets defeated the number one ranked St. Scholastica Saints in a non-conference contest, but couldn't find a way to do so in the UMAC Championship. Superior welcomes back some of the best talent in the league with two-time All-UMAC forward Jon Bucklew (Somerset, Wis./Somerset H.S.) leading the charge after recording 15 points in conference games last season. Defensive Player of the Year Hugo Roos (Halmstad, Sweden/Aspero Idrottsgymnasium) and Rookie of the Year Eric Watson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Hammarskjold H.S.) also join Bucklew in their quest to take down the Saints.

Head coach Joe Mooney thinks they have all the key peices to make a good run. "We return a lot from last year, along with one of the top freshman classes since I've been here." Mooney said. "If we can avoid the skid we had at the beginning of last season, I think we've got all of the peices to put our best foot forward."

October 3 is the day circled on everyone's calendar. Superior will head to Duluth to take on the Saints. It could be a preview of the conference championship, and the Yellowjackets look to keep it that way.

'Jacket men's soccer will kick off on Friday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. as Superior hosts Gustavus Adolphus at home in NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
