MINNEAPOLIS (March 7, 2018) – The Yellowjackets made their 2018 debut in U.S. Bank Stadium Wednesday afternoon; Superior lost in their first game and the second game was unfinished due to time constraints.
Game 1
The 'Jackets fell in an early hole after a one-score Auggie first inning, but would fire back in the following half inning. Jordan Berrios (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) had a lead-off single and a stolen base to start the campaign, followed by Cory Albertson (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) who doubled to center to bring Berrios in for a 1-1 tie.
Spencer Lawniczak (Pulaski, Wis./Pulaski) then singled to bring in Brandon Rolf (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater), followed by Stephen Albertson (Stillwater, Minn/Stillwater) then drove in his brother C. Albertson on a sacrifice fly to left to score two more. S. Albertson was caught stealing to end the first inning on top 3-1.
The Yellowjackets would find their bats once again in the fifth inning. Nick McNosky (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle) would single and steal to start the inning, and Alec Rabin (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) would reach on an error from the Auggie shortstop; on the same play, McNosky would score. Alex Osness (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West) in a pinch-running situation, would take two bases on a throwing error and a stolen base. He would arrive home for the second score after a pickoff from the Auggies at second base. The 'Jackets were down 7-5.
The sixth inning saw more scoring as both teams added three runs. Lawniczak reached after getting hit, and freshman Ryan Castaneda (San Pedro, Calif./Junipero Serra) singled through the right side to put two on base. Then McNosky went yard to left field to get the game within two heading into the final inning.
The Yellowjackets had a chance in the final inning of play, loading the bases, but the comeback would fall short on a ground ball to third base.
Game 2
Superior's pitching staff would struggle in the second game, giving up 11 runs on 16 hits in the first 5.1 innings, but due to time constrains, the game was not completed. For now, the game is a no-contest, b but there's hope that the game will be finished at a later date.

The Yellowjackets will play at U.S. Bank Stadium tomorrow morning, taking on the Carroll University Pioneers at 11 a.m.
