CASSELBERRY, Fla.: The UW-Superior men's tennis team earned its first win of the season Thursday, defeating Saint Ambrose, 7-2, at Red Bug Lake Park.
The Yellowjackets won doubles as the No. 1 pair of
Josiah Borst (Becker, Minn./Becker) and
Will Sherman (Baton Rouge, La./St. Michael) topped Tom Greenwood and Jon Kagan, 8-3.
Gavin Mangan (Henderson, Nev./Basic Academy) and
Grady Hauswirth (Farmington, Minn./Farmington Senior) extended the UWS lead to 2-0 with an 8-4 victory over Daniel Rohlf and Jake Temple before
Harry Simpson (Derby, England/Derby Moor Academy) and
Leonardo Paredes (Uberlandia, Brazil/Colegio Sao Paschoall) fell in a tiebreaker on court two.
Borst dispatched Greenwood, 6-3, 7-5, to open singles. Paredes earned the win at No. 2 singles by an identical tally to make it a 4-1 match.
Other singles victories on the day came from
Petar Bulatovic (Podgorica, Montenegro/Lee Academy), Sherman and Carter Lamont. Brady Anderson won the first set, 7-5, on court five before having to retire due to the heat.
The 'Jackets (1-3) return to action Friday at 10:30 a.m., against Pikeville in Orlando at the USTA National Campus.
