STEVENS POINT, Wis.:Â Senior thrower
C.J. Pillath (Coleman, Wis./Coleman) won the weight throw with a school-record mark of 18.40 meters to lead the UW-Superior men's track and field team in the Pointer Final Qualifier at the Multi-Activity Center Saturday.
Pillath's toss bested the school mark set by Nils Hansen in 2013 and will be good enough for Pillath to advance to the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass., on Friday, March 8.
Â
Pillath is the first student-athlete to represent the Yellowjackets at the indoor NCAA championships since Charles Corbett (5,000-meter run) and Thomas Udenberg (shot put) competed in 2016.
Â
Pillath was also second in the shot put on Saturday with a mark of 15.65 meters, while classmate Fauston Wirth finished seventh in the weight throw with a personal-best effort of 16.54 meters.Â
Â
On the track, senior
Rand Bieri (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet) recorded an indoor season best with a seventh-place showing in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:02.19.
Â
Senior
Zach Mazurek (Bessemer, Mich./Bessemer) ran 16:04.38 in the 5,000 for a personal best and an 11th-place finish. Junior
Henry Seeb (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) was 16th in the event in 16:40.32.
Â
In the mile run, sophomore
