SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior men's tennis team got back on a winning track with an 8-1 victory over Crown in the 'Jackets' second match of the day Thursday.
Superior surrendered just two games in doubles as it built a 3-0 lead.
Clayton Tanner (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) and
Anthony Michels (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie Senior ) swept Jake Sporleder and Mike Brewster at No. 3. The pairs of
Josiah Borst (Becker, Minn./Becker) and
Brady Anderson (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls) as well as
Gavin Mangan (Henderson, Nev./Basic Academy) and
Grady Hauswirth (Farmington, Minn./Farmington Senior) beat their opponents, Caleb Baumann and Romeo Mork and Andrew Moorse and Joe Duffy, 8-1, respectively.
Mangan beat Moorse and Michels beat Duffy, 6-0, 6-0, in singles action.
Hauswirth fell to Mork at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1, as Crown made it 5-1.
UWS lost only seven games in its remaining matches.
Min June Jang (Superior, Wis./Superior) and
Jordan Wetterlind (Twig, Minn./Proctor) each secured wins for the 'Jackets to close the match.
UWS (7-9, 5-1 UMAC) ends the regular season Friday at 4 p.m, and could be the first, second or third seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
