SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's tennis team defeated Crown, 8-1, Thursday at the Yellowjackets Outdoor Tennis Complex.
The Yellowjackets made quick work of the Storm, dropping only seven total games in singles play.
Mariah Linder (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) and
Taylor Kane (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) beat Sierra Allison and Abby Engrav, 8-0.
Alison Tollas (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) and
Olivia Roberts (Rhinelander, Wis. /Rhinelander) swept Abby Yates and Emily Eischens by the same score. Superior's lone loss on the day came from the pair of
Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) and
Sam Westgaard (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) who fell, 8-4, to Lauren Sporleder and Cortney Gunderson at No. 3.

Kitana Honkola (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) and
Maura Halverson (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) each earned sweeps in their matches at No. 3, 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
Alison Tollas (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) dropped just one game in the first set to Allison.
Linder topped Gunderson, 6-1, 6-2 to close the match, giving UWS the victory.
The 'Jackets improve to 8-7 and 5-1 in the UMAC. Crown is now 0-14 and 0-8 in the league.
Superior hosts Northwestern Friday at 4 p.m., and could finish anywhere from first to third in the conference standings.
