SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's tennis team fell, 8-1, to Northwestern at the Yellowjackets Outdoor Tennis Complex on Friday.
The loss, which moves its record to 8-8 and 5-2 in the UMAC, ends the regular season for Superior. With the win, Northwestern improves to 13-9 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
The 'Jackets' lone match victory came at No. 3 singles, where
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./East) defeated Shawna Spears, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
In all, the match featured five tiebreakers, including four in singles play.
Mariah Linder (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) and
Taylor Kane (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) dropped a breaker at No. 2 doubles, 7-1, to Spears and Mafee Rinta.
Alison Tollas (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) lost a first-set breaker to Emily Knight at two singles. Linder on court five and
Kitana Honkola (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) on court six each fell in second-set breakers, 7-5, and 7-4, respectively.
