LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The UW-Superior women's tennis team shut out North Central, 9-0, at Lifetime Athletic Club Friday.
The Yellowjackets moved to within one match of the .500 mark with a 5-6 record in the win. Superior is now 2-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play. NCU fell to 1-9 overall and 1-5 in the league with the loss
UWS used solid contributions throughout the lineup to earn the victory. Junior
Maura Halverson (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) earned her first collegiate victory, winning, 6-2, 6-3, over Rachel Cribb at No. 6 singles.
The doubles team of
Alison Tollas (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) and
Charlotte Zangs (Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul) on court three did not allow Nicole Swanson and Erin Oellerrich to win a game in their match.
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./East) and
Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, respectively, also did not surrender a game to their opponents in the win.
Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids),
Alison Tollas (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) and
Kitana Honkola (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) gave up a combined four games in claiming their three matches.
The 'Jackets travel to St. Peter, Minn., Saturday to take on Bethany Lutheran at 3 p.m.
