ST. PETER, Minn. – The UW-Superior women's tennis team picked up its second consecutive 9-0 win Saturday, beating Bethany Lutheran at the Swanson Tennis Center.
With the win, the Yellowjackets evened their record to 6-6 and remained perfect in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play at 3-0. The Vikings fell to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the UMAC with the loss.
Superior dropped just one game in doubles action. The No. 1 pair of
Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) and
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./East) topped BLC's Taylor Bolduan and Shoshana Bruner, 8-0, as did
Mariah Linder (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) and
Alison Tollas (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) at No. 2 against Leah Schaefer and Jessalyn Aune-Smith.
Kitana Honkola (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) and
Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) defeated Audrey Petersen and Emma Carmichael, 8-1.
Dulong surrendered one game in the first set to Bolduan, claiming the victory to make it 4-0. Callaway and Wald then beat Schaefer and Peterson, 6-0, 6-0, at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, respectively.
Tollas hung tough in the first set of her match with Bruner on court four for a 7-5 win and then rolled in the second set, 6-0, for the 'Jackets' seventh point.
The final two matches of the day went to Linder over Aune-Smith on five, 6-2, 6-1, and Honkola on six over Carmichael, 6-0, 6-2.
Superior next hosts St. Scholastica Tuesday, April 16 at Lydia Thering Fieldhouse.
