SUPERIOR, Wis. – UW-Superior senior designated hitter
Braeden Barr (San Diego, Calif./Grossmont) has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Baseball Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America program separately recognizes baseball and softball student-athletes in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Barr, an Exercise Science major with a 3.45 grade-point average, is batting .386 (44-for-114) in 31 games this season. He has 11 doubles, five home runs and 34 RBIs. Having struck out just four times, Barr currently ranks 15th in the nation, averaging a strikeout every 28.5 at-bats.
He is tied for fifth in the UMAC in home runs, sixth in RBIs, seventh in slugging percentage (.614) and tied for 10th in hits.
Barr is second on the team with 14 multiple-hit games and nine multi-RBI games so far this season. He compiled a 13-game hitting streak from March 22-April 19 (hitting .404 in that span). Barr is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak entering the UMAC tournament.
Also a right-handed pitcher for the 'Jackets, Barr is 2-2 with a 6.82 ERA in six appearances on the mound in 2019. He has one complete game and has struck out 18 against just four walks in 30.1 innings pitched.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher and be a starter or key contributor to their respective team.
Barr will now advance to the Academic All-America ballot. Those honors will be announced in June.
The No. 4-seeded Yellowjackets (15-20) play fifth-seed Crown in an elimination game in the UMAC tournament Thursday at Wade Stadium in Duluth. First pitch is 1 p.m.
