SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior men's tennis team fell, 5-4, to Concordia (Minn.) at Lydia Thering Fieldhouse on Sunday.
The Yellowjackets won two doubles matches, but the Cobbers closed out the match in singles.
Freshman
Michael Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) continued the hot start to collegiate career, remaining unbeaten at No. 1 singles at 3-0 and won his first doubles match with partner
Lorenzo Korehisa Silva (Sao Paolo, Brazil/Colegio Singular-Santo Andre). Janes was the only Superior player to win both of his matches on the day.
Janes and Korehisa Silva beat Carter Steffes and David Youngs at No. 2 doubles, 8-6, to give the 'Jackets a 2-0 lead. Janes knocked off Erik Porter, 6-0, 6-3, to give his team a 4-2 advantage after senior
Harry Simpson (Derby, England/Derby Moor Academy) topped Steffes in straight sets at No. 4.
The Cobbers won the final three matches of the day for the victory. Youngs topped
Carter LaMont (Villard, Minn./Minnewaska Area) at No. 3, 6-3, 6-3, Cole Gillespie beat
Grady Hauswirth (Farmington, Minn./Farmington Senior), 6-4, 7-5, on court five and Jake Peters beat Korehisa Silva on six, 6-2, 6-3.

Gavin Mangan (Henderson, Nev./Basic Academy) opened the match winning at No. 1 doubles against the Concordia tandem of Grant Storm and Eli Simonson, 8-6.
Concordia improves to 2-for-4 overall with the win, while UWS falls to 0-3 on the season.
The 'Jackets host Iowa Central next Sunday in exhibition action at 10 a.m., before playing five matches during spring break, starting March 14 against Johns Hopkins in Florida.
