WINONA, Minn. –The UW-Superior women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to St Mary's Saturday at the Winona Tennis Center.
Junior
Kitana Honkola (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) earned the Yellowjackets' only point on the day with a three-set victory at No. 4 singles. Honkola beat the Cardinals' Kailee Johnson, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
Junior
Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) won six games in her match with Kennedy Morgan on Court 3, dropping the first set, 6-4, and the second, 6-2.
Freshman Brenna Wienen won two games in the second set against Maggie Frye at No. 5 while senior
Maura Halverson (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) won one game at No. 6 against Zoie Becker.
In doubles action, Honkola and Wald fell, 8-3, to Morgan and Johnson at No. 2.
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./East) and
Alison Tollas (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) as well as Wienen and Halverson took two games off the pairs of Colleen Lois and Cassandra Barr and Frye and Becker, respectively.
The 'Jackets next head to Lakeville, Minn., to take on St. Thomas Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
