ST. PAUL, Minn. – UW-Superior freshman distance runner Michael Butterfield (Bovey, Minn./Greenway) has been named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
 
Butterfield won the 5,000-meter run in The Opener at St. Scholastica on Saturday, setting a personal record in 16:49.67. Butterfield claimed the event by nearly 25 seconds in a time that was the best in the UMAC this weekend.
 
 He also finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 2.75 meters, achieved on his third attempt in that event.
 
The Yellowjackets now break for the holidays before returning to action for the Minnesota State Invitational Jan. 14 at 2 p.m.
