SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's tennis team notched a 7-2 victory over Martin Luther at Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse on Sunday in non-conference action.

The Yellowjackets claimed all three doubles matches to stake themselves to an early lead as the teams of
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) and
Chiyono Owa (Tokyo, Japan/Otsuma Nakano Senior),
Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) and
Olivia Roberts (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) and
Kallie Olson (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) and
Grace Nelson (New London, Wis./New London) each took care of their MLC counterparts. Callaway and Owa topped McKenzey Crowley and Josephine Bieberitz, 8-2, at the top spot, while Wald and Roberts beat Tatum Bollmeier and Dana Pietrzyk, 8-3, at two and Olson and Nelson put away Charis Glende and Hannah Broring, 8-5, on court three.

UWS won the first three matches in singles play, as well. Callaway shut out Crowley, 6-0, 6-0, Wald dropped one game in each set to Bieberitz and Owa defeated Bollmeier, 6-2, 6-1.Â

Olson fell to Pietrzyk, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, helping the Knights get on the scoreboard prior to Roberts and Nelson each winning three-set contests to ensure the match victory. Roberts won over Glende, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6, and Nelson beat Broring, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 10-3.

UWS returns to the court Saturday when it travels to take on UW-Eau Claire at the Jon and Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
