SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior men's tennis team swept Bethany Lutheran, 9-0, in non-conference action at Lydia Thering Fieldhouse Sunday.
The Yellowjackets opened the match by taking all three doubles points while only dropping three games.
Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes (Brasilia, Brazil/Centro de Ensino Médio Paulo Freire) and
Jacob Zacharias (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) topped the Vikings' pair of Samuel Liffengren and Brock Aaker at No. 2 doubles, 8-0, before
Gus Rasmussen (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) and
Carter LaMont (Villard, Minn./Minnewaska Area) defeated Javier Lopez Billion and Jim Olson, 8-1 at No. 3.
Gergo Potz Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/Veres Pálné Secondary Grammar School) and
Michael Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) gave UWS a 3-0 lead in the match with an 8-3 win over Marcos Borobia Arias and Niklas Kasa at the top flight.
Miles Dempsey (Golden, Colo./Green Mountain) at six, Anthony Miles at five and
Gavin Mangan (Henderson, Nev./Basic Academy) at four each dispatched their opponents without surrendering a game.
Reier Sjomeling (Delano, Minn./Delano) beat Kasa at No. 2, 6-1, 6-3, and
Clayton Tanner (Waseca, Minn./Waseca Senior) downed Aaker, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3.
Lorenzo Korehisa Silva (Sao Paolo, Brazil/Colegio Singular-Santo Andre) played the match of the day with BLC's Borobia Arias. Korehisa Silva won the first set, 6-3, prior to dropping the second 6-7 (7-3). He bounced back to take the third-set tiebreaker, 11-9, to win the match.
With the match victory, Superior improves to 2-1 on the season, while Bethany falls to 0-1.
The 'Jackets next host Minnesota Morris March 14 at 1 p.m.
