SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior men's tennis team earned a 9-0 sweep of Minnesota Morris in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse.
The Yellowjackets dropped just two games in winning the three doubles matches.
Michael Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) and
Gergo Potz Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/Veres Pálné Secondary Grammar School) topped Taiyo Larson and Tanner Janorschke, 8-1, at No. 1, and
Gavin Mangan (Henderson, Nev./Basic Academy) and
Carter LaMont (Villard, Minn./Minnewaska Area) beat Paul Decker and Cole Peters by the same score on court two. UWS went into singles play up 3-0 by virtue of an 8-0 victory by
Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes (Brasilia, Brazil/Centro de Ensino Médio Paulo Freire) and
Jacob Zacharias (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) over Nick Garmen and Jack Flicker.
Zacharias took care of Flicker 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 for a 4-0 lead before LaMont prevailed in two sets over Decker at No. 5. LaMont had to go to a tiebreaker to take the first set, 7-6 (7-2), but rolled in the second, 6-0, the victory.
Lorenzo Korehisa Silva (Sao Paolo, Brazil/Colegio Singular-Santo Andre) gave Superior a 6-0 advantage in the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Peters at No. 6, prior to Luiz de Melo Guedes and Potz Nagy dispatching their opponents 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-2, respectively.
Janes closed the match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Garmen at the top spot.
The match win moves the 'Jackets to 3-1 on the season, while Morris falls to 1-1.
UWS is back in action next Sunday hosting UW-La Crosse at noon.
