SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's tennis team earned a home sweep of Bethany Lutheran in non-conference play at Lydia Thering Fieldhouse on Sunday.
Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) and
Olivia Roberts (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) gave the Yellowjackets an early lead in doubles action, beating the Bethany tandem of Audrey Petersen and Lauren Zimmerman on court two, 8-1. Then,
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) and
Chiyono Owa (Tokyo, Japan/Otsuma Nakano Senior) dispatched Shoshana Bruner and Emma Newton on court one, 8-2.
Kallie Olson (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) and
Grace Nelson (New London, Wis./New London) won by default on three.
In singles, Olson beat Zimmerman, 6-1, 6-0 for a 4-0 lead in the match. Owa followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Peterson on court three and Wald made it 6-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Newton.
Callaway then defeated Bruner 6-0, 6-2 to close the match as both Roberts and Nelson won their matches by default.
Win the match win, UWS improves to 2-1 on the season and BLC falls to 0-1.
