SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's tennis team hosted UW-Stevens Point in its first outdoor match of the season on Saturday, falling 9-0 to the Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point won all three doubles matches while surrendering just four total games. Barbara Covek and Jenna Koepp topped
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) and
Chiyono Owa (Tokyo, Japan/Otsuma Nakano Senior), 8-1, Faith Leithold and Chloe Leithold defeated
Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) and
Olivia Roberts (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander), 8-3 and Kaitlyn Hess and Grace Henes beat
Kallie Olson (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) and
Grace Nelson (New London, Wis./New London), 8-0.
In singles play, Callaway drooped her match at No. 1 to Covek, 6-2, 6-0, and Wald fell to Koepp, 6-0, 6-0 on court two.
Owa lost to Faith Leithold, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3, and Olson was defeated by Hess, 6-1, 6-0.
Leah Hollander beat Roberts, 6-2, 6-1 on five, and Anna Dobbe defeated Nelson, 6-1, 6-0 on court six to seal the match.
The Pointers improved to 2-0 with the win, while UWS fell to 2-3 with the loss.
The Yellowjackets get back at it Sunday against another WIAC foe in UW-La Crosse at noon.
