SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior men's tennis team fell in a 6-3 decision against St. Scholastica at the Yellowjackets Outdoor Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
St. Scholastica held a 2-1 lead in the match after doubles as Reece Patten and Giacomo Lucchesi topped
Preston Vogel (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West) and
Reier Sjomeling (Delano, Minn./Delano), 8-1, and Elliot Schneider and Jack Kearney beat
Gergo Potz Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/Veres Pálné Secondary Grammar School) and
Jacob Zacharias (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti), 8-4. The Yellowjackets had tied the match when
Michael Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) and
Gus Rasmussen (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) defeated Jake Jalowsky and Carter Anderson, 8-5.
Zacharias tied the match, 2-2, with a straight-set 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jalowsky on court three. Potz Nagy made it 3-2 with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Kearney at No. 2.
From there, it was all Saints. Anderson outlasted Rasmussen, 1-6, 6-2, 10-8, at No. 4 to knot the match. Schneider gave CSS a 4-3 advantage beating Janes, 6-3, 7-5, on court one, before Lucchesi and Bradley Golant and topped Tanner and Vogel in straight sets in their respective contests to ensure the victory.
St. Scholastica improves to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the UMAC with the win, while Superior falls to 4-3 and 0-1 in the league in the loss.
The 'Jackets return to action Saturday at Bethany Lutheran at 1 p.m.
