SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's tennis team swept Crown, 9-0, on Sunday at the Yellowjackets Outdoor Tennis Complex.
UWS earned its second UMAC win in as many days after defeating Bethany Lutheran Saturday and had little trouble with the Storm in doing so on Sunday.
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) and
Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) made quick work of Sierra Allison and Abby Engrav, winning 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Kallie Olson (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) and
Grace Nelson (New London, Wis./New London) then beat Madeline Echavarria and Veronika Mykhailiuk, 8-1.
Chiyono Owa (Tokyo, Japan/Otsuma Nakano Senior) and Ririko Muira earned the third doubles point by default.
Wald won the first set against Allison at No. 1 singles before Allison retired due to injury at 1-1 in the second. Owa topped Engrav, 6-0, 6-2 on court two for a 4-0 advantage.
Nelson defeated Mykhailiuk, 6-1, 6-4 on four and Muira got by Maria Morales, 6-3, 6-1 on five. Olson beat Echavarria, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 to close the match as
Autumn Leseman (Eveleth, Minn./Virginia) won by default at No. 6.
The Yellowjackets moved to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in the UMAC with the victory while Crown dropped to 0-4 on the season.
Next up, Superior will host St. Scholastica Tuesday at 4 p.m.
