SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's tennis team earned a season sweep of Martin Luther with an 8-1 victory over the Knights in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.
The Yellowjackets' No. 1 doubles pair of
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) and
Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) opened the match with an 8-1 defeat of McKenzey Crowley and Josephine Bieberitz.
Kallie Olson (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) and
Grace Nelson (New London, Wis./New London) then beat Tatum Bollmeier and Dana Pietrzyk, 8-5, on court two, before
Chiyono Owa (Tokyo, Japan/Otsuma Nakano Senior) and
Olivia Roberts (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) topped Charis Glende and Hannah Broring, 8-1, on three.
In singles action, Callaway beat Crowley, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1, Wald beat Bieberitz, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 and Owa beat Bollmeier, 6-0, 6-1, on three.
Olson defeated Pietrzyk, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 and Nelson beat Broring, 6-3, 6-3 on six.
The Knights' only point on the day came at No. 5 singles where Glende beat Roberts, 6-0, 6-0.
Superior also defeated the MLC in its non-conference season opener, 7-2, on Feb. 21.
UWS, which evened its record to 5-5 with the win, moved to 3-1 in the UMAC. MLC dropped to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the league.
