SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior men's tennis team completed a season sweep of Martin Luther Wednesday, winning, 9-0, against the Knights at the Yellowjackets Outdoor Tennis Complex.
UWS opened the match by taking all three doubles matches while only dropping six games.
Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes (Brasilia, Brazil/Centro de Ensino Médio Paulo Freire) and
Lorenzo Korehisa Silva (Sao Paolo, Brazil/Colegio Singular-Santo Andre) beat Seth Koelpin and Marcus Sims, 8-1, on court two before
Gergo Potz Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/Veres Pálné Secondary Grammar School) and
Michael Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) topped Jonah Schultz and Benjamin Foos, 8-2 at No. 1.
Anthony Michels (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie Senior) and
Miles Dempsey (Golden, Colo./Green Mountain) then beat Josiah Koelpin and Elijah Schulz, 8-3 on three.
In singles, Potz Nagy defeated Jonah Schultz, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 and Janes beat Seth Koepin, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2.
At No. 3, de Melo Guedes took care of Foss, 6-0, 6-2, and at No. 4
Jacob Zacharias (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) dropped one game to Sims, winning, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4.
Korehisa Silva dispatched Josiah Koelpin, 6-0, 6-4, on court five, while
Gavin Mangan (Henderson, Nev./Basic Academy) closed the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Elijah Schultz.
The Yellowjackets also defeated the Knights, 9-0, in their non-conference season opener on Feb. 21.
With the win, UWS improved to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the UMAC. Martin Luther fell to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Next up, Superior travels to face St. Olaf Saturday at 11 a.m.
