NORTHFIELD, Minn. – St. Olaf topped the UW-Superior men's tennis team, 7-2, at Carlson Courts on Saturday.
The Yellowjackets earned victories at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively.
Michael Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) topped Michael Yousef, 4-6, 6-4, 10-6, on court two, while
Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes (Brasilia, Brazil/Centro de Ensino Médio Paulo Freire) won on court three, 7-5, 6-1, over Henry Smith.
Janes moves to 7-3 in singles action on the year and de Melo Guedes improves to 7-1 overall.
The Oles built a 7-0 lead in the match on the strength of doubles victories from Spencer Wick and Yousef, Dez Young and Smith and Ethan Bruha and Tony Klagge as well as singles wins by Wick, Young, Bruha and Klagge.
Wick and Yousef beat de Melo Guedes and
Gergo Potz Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/Veres Pálné Secondary Grammar School), 8-5 at No. 1, Young and Smith beat Janes and
Lorenzo Korehisa Silva (Sao Paolo, Brazil/Colegio Singular-Santo Andre) on two, 8-2, and Bruha and Klagge topped
Gavin Mangan (Henderson, Nev./Basic Academy) and
Jacob Zacharias (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti), 8-6 at No. 3.
Klagge didn't surrender a game to Mangan at No. 6 singles to give St. Olaf a 4-0 lead in the match. Bruha then beat Zacharias, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 and Wick beat Potz Nagy, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1.
Young earned the Oles final win of the day at No. 5 over Korehisa Silva, 6-2, 6-3.
UWS falls to 7-4 on the season with the loss while St. Olaf is now 5-6.
Superior jumps back into UMAC play Sunday against Minnesota Morris, in St. Cloud, Minn. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
