SARTELL, Minn. – The UW-Superior men's tennis team surrendered a total of four games in six singles matches en route to a 9-0 sweep of Minnesota Morris in UMAC action on Sunday.
The Yellowjackets blanked the Cougars at Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 6, to move to 4-1 in the UMAC this season.
Gergo Potz Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/Veres Pálné Secondary Grammar School) shut out Taiyo Larson on one while
Michael Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy),
Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes (Brasilia, Brazil/Centro de Ensino Médio Paulo Freire) and
Gavin Mangan (Henderson, Nev./Basic Academy) did the same to Nick Garmen, Paul Decker and Cole Peterson, respectively.
Jacob Zacharias (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) beat Tanner Janorschkeat No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-3, and
Lorenzo Korehisa Silva (Sao Paolo, Brazil/Colegio Singular-Santo Andre) yielded one game in the second set to Jack Flicker on court five.
UWS started the day with doubles victories by de Melo Guedes and Potz Nagy over Larson and Janorschke, 8-3, at No. 1. Janes and Gus Rassmussen defeated Garmen and Decker, 8-6, on court two, and Zacharias and Mangan dispatched Flicker and Peters, 8-0, on three.
With the win, Superior moves to 8-4 while Minnesota Morris is now 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the UMAC.
