SARTELL, Minn. – Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) and
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) won their matches, but he UW-Superior women's tennis team fell, 6-3, on the road to Minnesota Morris in UMAC play on Sunday.
Wald and Callaway teamed to beat Kiley Rodermel and Kate Obright, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, before Callaway dispatched Rodermel at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Wald earned her program-best 25th career singles win with a 6-3, 6-2, victory over Sam Tate at No. 2
From there, it was all Cougars. Abby Burquest and Tate topped
Chiyono Owa (Tokyo, Japan/Otsuma Nakano Senior) and
Kallie Olson (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior), 8-6, at No. 2 doubles, while Megan Ahrens and Bebe Say beat Kayla Christianson and
Olivia Roberts (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander), 8-3, at No. 3.
Obright defeated Owa at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-3, and Ahrens got past Olson on court four, 6-1, 6-1.
Burquest beat Roberts, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 5 andMegan Tschidatopped Christianson, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 6.
The Yellowjackets dropped to 5-7 and 3-2 in the UMAC with the loss. Minnesota Morris improved to 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the league.
Superior closes the regular season against Northwestern on Wednesday at 4 p.m., at the Yellowjackets Outdoor Tennis Complex.
