ROGERS, Minn. – The UW-Superior men's tennis team improved to 4-2 on the season with a strong non-conference road victory over Hamline, 7-2, at Rogers Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Yellowjackets won the final two doubles matches to take a 2-1 advantage into singles action.
Gergo Potz Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/Veres Pálné Secondary Grammar School) and
Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes (Brasilia, Brazil/Centro de Ensino Médio Paulo Freire) took care of Nazeer Robinson and Sam Thompson on court one, 8-5. On court three,
Gavin Mangan (Henderson, Nev./Basic Academy) and
Lorenzo Korehisa Silva (Sao Paolo, Brazil/Colegio Singular-Santo Andre) defeated Sean Le and Allan Yang, 8-6.
Superior made it 3-1 as de Melo Guedes topped Dominic Warzecha at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Potz Nagy then beat Robinson on court one, 6-4, 6-1.
Up 4-2 in the match, the UWS won the last three matches of the day to claim the victory.
Jacob Zacharias (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) beat Thompson at No. 3 after dropping the first set, 2-6. He won the last two, 6-4, and 10-8. Mangan beat Yang, 6-1, 7-5, before
Carter LaMont (Villard, Minn./Minnewaska Area) sealed the win with a 3-6, 6-3, 14-12 victory on court five.
The Pipers fell to 1-5 with the loss.
UWS next opens Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play hosting Martin Luther Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
