MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Superior men's track and field team set 10 personal bests in the Warren Bowlus Open, hosted by UW-Stout on Saturday.
The Yellowjackets also posted 11 top-10 finishes on the day in the non-scoring meet.
Freshman
Gage Stankiewicz (Esko, Minn./Esko) continued the strong beginning to his collegiate career with a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a personal best of 14.90 meters. Senior
Derrick Moe (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior) was fifth overall in the 3,000 meters in 8:49.51, pacing eight Superior runners in the event.
Tyler Finger (Clintonville, Wis./Clintonville),
Michael Butterfield (Bovey, Minn./Greenway),
Mitchell Hammer (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln),
David Collins (Ironwood, Mich./Luther L. Wright) and
Kei Okamoto (Nagoya, Japan/Reitaku Mizunami) each earned personal-best times in the race. Finger was 14th in 9:01.96, Butterfield was 27th in 9:23.18, Hammer was 34th in 9:43.06, Collins was 38th in 9:50.93 and Okamoto was 10:19.55,
Elsewhere, sophomore
Ethan Westimayer (Laona, Wis./Laona) finished seventh in the long jump in 5.59 meters, followed by
Steven Pearson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) in eighth in 5.58 meters. Sophomore
Earl Foster (Forest Lake, Minn./Spectrum) was ninth in the high jump in a personal best of 1.76 meters while
Kieran Johnson (South Range, Wis./Northwestern) tied for 10th overall in the pole vault with an effort of 2.87 meters.
Westimayer also finished ninth in the 200-meter dash and 10th in the 60-meter dash in times of 23.69 and 7.48, respectively.
Superior returns to action in the UWRF Winter Classic Saturday in Knowles Field House at 11 a.m.
