DULUTH, Minn. --Â The UW-Superior men's track and field team broke two school records and set 36 personal records to begin the 2022-23 indoor campaign at The Opener, hosted by St. Scholastica, at Burns Wellness Commons on Saturday.

Sophomore
Will Schorr (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) ran 7.03 seconds in his preliminary heat of the 60-meter dash, finishing third, and set the school record, topping Mike Sorensen's time of 7.15 from 2014. Schorr finished second overall in the 60 finals, running 7.05 seconds.Â

Schorr then clocked 22.98 seconds in the 200-meter dash, besting Alex Fathie's mark of 23.11, set in 2017. Schorr's time helped him finish fifth in the event. Schorr also earned a PR in the long jump with a mark of 6.32 meters to place fourth there.

David Collins (Ironwood, Mich./Luther L. Wright) won the Yellowjackets' only individual event of the day, the 5,000 meters, in 18:07.14, outrunning the field by more than 19 seconds.

Earl Foster (Forest Lake, Minn./Spectrum) collected three personal records to open his season. He was second in the high jump with a leap of 1.85 meters and second in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.89. He closed the day matching his best pole vault at 3.25 meters to finish fourth in that event.

Ethan Westimayer (Laona, Wis./Laona) also had a strong day, earning a personal record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.2 seconds in the prelims to finish sixth. He also held the 200-meter school record for a short time with a time of 23.02 before Schorr claimed it in his heat.

Iain Matheson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) finished second in the 400 meters in 51.93 and posted a personal record in the high jump at 1.60 meters for eighth place.

Michael Butterfield (Bovey, Minn./Greenway) was second in both the 800 meters and mile with personal records of 2:07.99 and 4:33.63, respectively.

Garrett Lynch (Portage, Wis./Portage) finished second in both the high jump and pole vault in 1.85 meters and 3.70 meters. His high jump mark represented a personal record.

The Yellowjackets return to action on Jan. 21 when they host the Twin Ports Open at Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse. Events are set to begin at 11 a.m.
