WINONA, Minn. – The UW-Superior men's tennis team earned its first dual-match victory of the season Friday, shutting out Saint Mary's on the road at the Winona Tennis Center.
The win for the Yellowjackets (1-2) is their first against the Cardinals in three matches all-time.
Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes (Brasilia, Brazil/Centro de Ensino Médio Paulo Freire) and
Gergo Potz Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/Veres Pálné Secondary Grammar School) beat Brandon Kurilla and Josh Janssen at No. 1 doubles, 8-1.
Michael Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) and
Keisuke Sato (Fukushima, Japan/Fukushima) did the same to E.J. Hietala and Peter Quinn at No. 2, and Gus Ramussen and
Dominik Hendrickson (Menomonie, Wis. /Menomonie Senior) topped Brendon Raabolle and Matt Besek to close doubles.
Janes beat Kurilla, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while Luiz de Melo Guedes defeated Janssen by the same score at No. 2.
Potz Nagy beat Hietala, 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 on court three. Sato dispatched Quinn, 6-2, 6-2, on court four.
Jace Gilbertson (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie Senior) beat Raabolle, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5.
Carter LaMont (Villard, Minn./Minnewaska Area) outlasted Tucker Stene, 6-7 (5), 6-1, 10-1 on court six.
The Yellowjackets close the weekend with a noon match versus Loras on Saturday.
