MINNEAPOLIS – The UW-Superior men's tennis team opened its spring season with a 6-3 loss to Macalester at Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center on Saturday.
Senior
Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes (Brasilia, Brazil/Centro de Ensino Médio Paulo Freire) earned two of the Yellowjackets' three points on the day, winning at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, with partner
Gergo Potz Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/Veres Pálné Secondary Grammar School) and also won 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (6) at No. 3 singles.
Superior's other victory came from
Michael Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-2, over the Scots' Alec Sargent.
Janes and
Gus Rasmussen (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) took four games Sargent and Jordan Doi at No. 2 doubles, while Preton Vogel and
Dominik Hendrickson (Menomonie, Wis. /Menomonie Senior) won three from Alex Poland and Liam Lynch.
Anton Korolev beat
Keisuke Sato (Fukushima, Japan/Fukushima), 6-2, 7-5, on court five, Karsten Knutsen beat Potz Nagy 6-1, 6-0, on two and Matthew Sullivan beat Vogel, 6-0, 6-1, on court four.
Freshman
Jace Gilbertson (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie Senior) took four games from Poland on court six.
UWS (0-1) is back in action against Bethel next Saturday in Rogers, Minn. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
