ORLANDO, Fla. -- The UW-Superior women's tennis team fell, 9-0, to Roger Williams to begin its spring break trip at Lake Cane Tennis Center on Tuesday.
The Yellowjackets, who had their initial flight to Florida on Saturday cancelled due to weather, finally were able to start their week in the Sunshine State against the Hawks.
UWS (1-6) got a solid effort from
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) Chiyono Owa (Tokyo, Japan/Otsuma Nakano Senior) at No. 1 doubles. The pair dropped an 8-5 match to Alessia Cahoon and Emma Place. Callaway then lost, 6-4, 6-2, to Place at atop the singles lineup in the most competitive match on those courts.
Shelby Hanson (Albert Lea, Minn./Albert Lea Senior) took four games from Alexa DiCesareat No. 4 singles while Owa won three against Gianna Ferraro on court three.
Roger Williams improved to 14-2 overall with the dual-match win.
UWS plays a pair of matches Wednesday against UW-La Crosse and Carthage at 8:30 a.m., and 2 p.m. CT, respectively.
