ORLANDO, Fla. -- The UW-Superior men's tennis team closed its spring break trip with dual-match victories over Franciscan and Colby-Sawyer on Friday at Lake Cane Tennis Center.
The Yellowjackets (5-4) defeated Franciscan 7-2 and Colby-Sawyer, 5-4.
Against the Barons, UWS got doubles victories on courts one and two from Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes and
Gergo Potz Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/Veres Pálné Secondary Grammar School) and
Michael Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) and
Keisuke Sato (Fukushima, Japan/Fukushima). Singles wins by Janes, Luiz de Melo Guedes, Sato,
Jace Gilbertson (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie Senior) and
Carter LaMont (Villard, Minn./Minnewaska Area) secured the match.
Versus the Chargers, Superior earned doubles wins from Janes and Sato at No. 1 and Potz Nagy and LaMont at No. 2.
Gilbertson and LaMont each won in singles action in straight sets, while
Lorenzo Korehisa Silva (Sao Paolo, Brazil/Colegio Singular-Santo Andre) posted a win in the tiebreaker at 10-7 after winning the first set, 6-3, and dropping the second by the same count on court six.
The Yellowjackets return home to open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play against Martin Luther on March 27 at 1 p.m.
