MANKATO, Minn. -- The UW-Superior men's tennis team improved to 3-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference on Sunday with a 6-3 victory over Bethany Lutheran at the BLC Tennis Courts.
The Yellowjackets earned doubles wins from the pairs of
Michael Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) and
Keisuke Sato (Fukushima, Japan/Fukushima) and
Gus Rasmussen (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) and
Jace Gilbertson (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie Senior) at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Janes and Sato beat Heitor Nevas Damaso and Antonio Lino Coelho, 8-7, while Rasmussen and Gilbertson topped Caue Ribeiro and Ben Foss by the same score.
Janes defeated Carlos Franch, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while
Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes (Brasilia, Brazil/Centro de Ensino Médio Paulo Freire) beat Marcos Borobia Arias, 6-4, 6-2, on court two.
Other wins came from
Gergo Potz Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/Veres Pálné Secondary Grammar School) at No. 3, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) over Nevas Damaso and Gilbertson over Lino Coelho, 7-5, 3-6, 11-9 at No. 4.
UWS moved to 9-5 overall with the win and Bethany Lutheran falls to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Superior returns to action next Tuesday, April 19 against Northwestern at 4 p.m., at home.
