NEW ULM, Minn. -- The UW-Superior men's tennis team earned its second consecutive 9-0 victory over Martin Luther on Saturday at the MLC Tennis Courts.
The Yellowjackets improved to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the UMAC with their fourth consecutive dual-match win.
UWS breezed through doubles action as
Gergo Potz Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/Veres Pálné Secondary Grammar School) and
Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes (Brasilia, Brazil/Centro de Ensino Médio Paulo Freire) (8-4),
Keisuke Sato (Fukushima, Japan/Fukushima) and
Michael Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) (8-2) and
Gus Rasmussen and
Jace Gilbertson(8-4) dispatched their opponents handily.
Superior took all six singles matches in straight sets. Potz Nagy topped Seth Koelpin at No. 2, 6-1, 6-2, while Janes beat Jonah Schulz, 6-4, 6-0, for a 5-0 lead in the match.
Lorenzo Korehisa Silva (Sao Paolo, Brazil/Colegio Singular-Santo Andre) defeated Josiah Wordell at No. 4, 6-4, 6-2, before Sato beat Josiah Koelpin, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 3.
Dominick Hendrickson won, 6-3, 6-2, against Marcus Sims at No. 6, and
Miles Dempsey (Golden, Colo./Green Mountain) closed the match at No. 5 with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5 win over Elijah Schulz
Martin Luther fell to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the UMAC with the loss.
UWS returns to action Sunday against Concordia (Minn.) at the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Club. First serve is set for 11:30 a.m.
