LA CROSSE, Wis. --Â UW-Superior freshman thrower
Gage Stankiewicz (Esko, Minn./Esko) finished third overall in the discus at the Phil Esten Challenge Friday at Veterans Memorial Sports Complex to lead the UW-Superior men's track and field team on the first day of the meet.

Stankiewicz threw 44.18 meters, finishing over six meters out of the top spot in the 44-man field.
Nate Ohman (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern),
Brock Phernetton (Frederic, Wis./Frederic) and
Jared Janczak (Bessemer, Mich./A.D. Johnston) were 29th, 31st and 32nd overall in the event with throws of 32.72 meters, 32.31 meters and 31.95 meters, for UWS

Freshman
Garrett Lynch (Portage, Wis./Portage) and sophomore
Earl Foster (Forest Lake, Minn./Spectrum) competed in the decathlon and are 15th ad 16th overall in the standings through five events. Lynch has 2,732 points and Foster boasts 2,606.Â

Lynch's best finish so far is a tie for seventh place in the high jump at 1.76 meters for 593 points. Foster tied for 11 in the same event with a leap of 1.73 meters for 569 points.

With two events scored, the Yellowjackets are seventh in the overall team standings with six points.

The second day of the meet begins at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday.
