Box Score VIRGINIA, Minn. -- The UW-Superior women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Concordia (Minn.), 8-1, at the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Club on Sunday.
The Yellowjackets fell to 3-12 on the season with the loss while the Cobbers improved to 7-10 overall with the win.
Superior's only point in the dual came at No. 2 doubles as the senior pair of
Chiyono Owa (Tokyo, Japan/Otsuma Nakano Senior) and
Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids Senior) topped Concordia's Emily Savageau and Anna Hacker, 8-5. The victory made it 1-1 in the match, before the Cobbers won the remaining seven contests in straight sets.
Senior
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) and freshman
Kaytlyn Syverson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) took their Nos. 1 and 2 singles matches to first-set tiebreakers. Callaway lost to Raquel Egge, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0, while Syverson fell to Savageau, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.
Owa won six games from Hacker on court four in a 7-5, 6-1 defeat and Dulong took five games off of Mary Skorich at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2.
Freshman
Shelby Hanson (Albert Lea, Minn./Albert Lea Senior) fell, 6-3, 6-1, to Lizzie Allan at No. 5 and classmate
Lainey Zurn (Almena, Wis./Barron) lost to Erin Borchard, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 6 to close the match.
