WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. -- The UW-Superior women's tennis team closed the regular season with a 7-2 loss to Northwestern at Lifetime Athletic Club on Sunday.
The Yellowjackets (7-14, 6-2 UMAC) enter the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference tournament as the No. 2 seed and will face third-seeded Minnesota Morris Friday at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
On Sunday, UWS earned victories at No. 2 doubles and No. 1 singles.
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) teamed with
Lainey Zurn (Almena, Wis./Barron) to take down Taylar Smith and Elli Dodge, 8-4. Callaway defeated Belinda Weddle, 6-4, 6-2, for Superior's second point in No. 1 singles action.
Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids Senior) played Annie Orvis to a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles, falling 6-2, 2-6, 10-5.
Chiyono Owa (Tokyo, Japan/Otsuma Nakano Senior) and Dodge went to a second-set breaker at No. 4 with Dodge prevailing, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) there.
Zurn fell to Analise Marquardt on court six, 6-0, 4-6 10-5.
With the win Northwestern improves to 19-3 and 8-0 in the UMAC.
