ROGERS, Minn. -- Senior
Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes (Brasilia, Brazil/Centro de Ensino Médio Paulo Freire) became the UW-Superior men's tennis team's all-time leader in career singles wins, helping the Yellowjackets defeat Bethel, 8-1, at Rogers Tennis Club on Saturday.
With Luiz de Melo Guedes's 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 2 singles against Bethel's Luke Wyly, he earned his 28th career singles victory, passing
Michael Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) (2020-22) for the most in school history.
UWS (3-0) won all three doubles matches and all but No. 4 singles to pick up a strong non-conference win over the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent.
Luiz de Melo Guedes and
Jacob Zacharias (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) beat Jackson Meyer and Wyly, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles,
Igor Guetten Chaves (Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil/Colégio Adventista) and
Vitor Sakakibara (São Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Saber) topped Dylan Magistad and Robert Seaton at No. 2 by the same score. Bendek Kaibas and
Mateus Miranda Silvestre (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Torricelli) beat Brett Eliason and Ryan Ackerman by he same, tally, as well.
Guetten Chaves defeated Meyer, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 singles and
Ren Kurachi (Yokohama, Japan/Yokosuka Gakuin) beat Magistad, 6-3, 1-6, 10-4. Kaibas beat Eliason, 5-7, 6-0, 10-8 on court five and Jace Gilbertsob beat Ackerman, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 6.
Bethel fell to 1-1 on the season with the loss.
The Yellowjackets return to action next Saturday and Sunday against Loras and St. Norbert, in De Pere, Wis., at 5 p.m. and 8 a.m., respectively.
