Men’s Track and Field Wins Seventh Straight UMAC Indoor Crown

SUPERIOR, Wis. -- The UW-Superior men's track and field team won its seventh consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference indoor track and field championship at Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse on Saturday.
 
The Yellowjackets scored 247.5 points over the two days, the most of any of the seven titles. UWS outscored second-place Minnesota Morris by 137.5 points. Superior followed its six event victories on Friday with another four on the final day as Sophomores Aidan Doherty (Wild Rose, Wis./Wild Rose), Will Schorr (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) and Garrett Lynch (Portage, Wis./Portage) won the 800-meter run, 200-meter dash an pole vault, respectively. Doherty ran a personal record 2:01.44, Schorr posted a season-best 22.96 and Lynch vaulted 4.00 meters for the wins.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Iain Matheson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior), freshman Garrett Kroells (Green Isle, Minn./Sibley East), senior Ethan Westimayer (Laona, Wis./Laona) and Shorr also claimed that race in a season-best 3:32.30.
 
Earl Foster (Forest Lake, Minn./Spectrum) led three Yellowjackets in the 60-meter hurdles in a second-place time of 8.66 seconds for a personal record. Lynch was third in 8.99 and freshman Jamie Jett (Bessemer, Mich./A.D. Johnston) was sixth in 9.65. 
 
Schorr placed third overall in the 60-meter dash in 7.12 seconds, while freshman Ethan Bowe (Chetek, Wis./Chetek-Weyerhaeuser) posted a PR of 7.27 seconds for sixth. Westimayer was seventh in 7.36 seconds.
 
Matheson and Bowe finished third and sixth, respectively, in the 200 meters behind Schorr. Matheson ran 23.38 and Bowe clocked a PR of 23.73.
 
Kei Okamoto (Nagoya, Japan/Reitaku Mizunami) and Kieran Johnson (South Range, Wis./Northwestern) were third and seventh in the 3,000-meter run in times of 9:43.75 and 9:52.18 
 
Nate Ohman (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) and Gage Stankiewicz (Esko, Minn./Esko) placed fourth and fifth in the shot put with marks of 13.72 and 13.43 meters.
 
UWS collected 32 points in the pole vault. With Lynch in the top spot, Foster was second (3.50 meters), Johnson was third (3.20 meters) and freshmen Isaac Hanson (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) and Cody Van Camp (Poplar, Wis./Northwestern) finished fourth and sixth, respectively in 3.20 meters and 2.75 meters -- all personal-record marks.
 
Ben Babcock (Blue Earth, Minn./Blue Earth Area) placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.38 meters, Steven Pearson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) was sixth in 11.59 meters and Jordan Goldfine (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) was eighth in 10.97 meters.
 
Select Yellowjackets will head to the Ripon Final Qualifier next Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
