FARGO, N.D. -- The UW-Superior women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches to Minnesota Morris and Concordia (Minn.) o Saturday at Courts Plus Community Fitness.
The Yellowjackets (1-5, 0-1) fell to the Cougars, 6-3, in the first match of the day and 8-1 against the Cobbers in the second.
Shelby Hanson (Albert Lea, Minn./Albert Lea Senior) and
Jessi Kukowski (Duluth, Minn./Hermantown) won their No. 3 doubles match versus UMM's Megan Arens and Marybeth Tautges, 8-6, but the pairs of
Courtney Brandt (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids Senior) and
Marina Dostal (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior) and
Andreina Tejada (Quito, Ecuador/Isaac Newton) and
Brooke Wilfong (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) were unable to follow suit, dropping 8-4 and 8-5 decisions, respectively.
Tejada won her No. 1 singles match, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 and
Lainey Zurn (Almena, Wis./Barron) won at No. 6 over Tautges, 6-1, 6-1, accounting for Superior's singles points. With the win, the Cougars improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the UMAC.
Against Concordia (4-3), the Yellowjackets received a 7-5. 6-4 victory from freshman
Daylyn Drew (Negaunee, Mich./Negaunee) at No. 6 singles.
Haley Quick (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail High School and Academy) played Erin Borchard tough, falling, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 10-5, at No. 5 singles.
Superior returns to action next Saturday at Concordia (Wis.) at 1 p.m.
