Orlando, Fla. – One thing about spring trips, you know your team is going to get a lot of work in a very short time. For the Yellowjacket women's tennis team, that was certainly the case. After having matches scheduled for Monday postponed due to weather, the 'Jackets moved forward, playing five matches in four days, including a pair of doubleheaders.

The spring trip wrapped up Friday, with the Yellowjackets dropping a pair of matches against quality opponents, falling to Ohio Wesleyan 8-1, before dropping a 9-0 decision to Carthage. The Yellowjackets went 1-4 on their trip to The Sunshine State, and come home with a record of 3-10 (0-1 UMAC).

Match 1
In the opening match of the day, the Yellowjackets earned their only win of the day at No. 3 doubles. There,
Daylyn Drew (Negaunee, Mich./Negaunee) and
Brooke Wilfong (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) were victorious, defeating Riley Brokaw and Maisie Dugger of Ohio Wesleyan 8-3.

At No. 2 doubles,
Jessi Kukowski (Duluth, Minn./Hermantown) and
Shelby Hanson (Albert Lea, Minn./Albert Lea Senior), who were 2-2 in doubles play in Florida thus far, fell in this one, 8-4.

Kukowski has been on fire in singles play of late, but she came up just short in this one, falling 4-6, 4-6 to Ryleigh Tillman.
Brooke Wilfong (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) dropped her first set at No. 4 singles, 1-6, but came back to take the second set 6-2 before falling in the tiebreaker5-10.

Courtney Brandt (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids Senior) and
Haley Quick (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail High School and Academy) fell at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively, by identical 4-6, 2-6 scores.

Match 2
The second match of the day saw the Yellowjackets competing against a tough Carthage squad.

After getting swept in doubles play, the Yellowjackets turned to singles where
Marina Dostal (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior) put up a great fight at No. 2, before falling to Carthage's Giana Apostoli 2-6, 2-6.

Drew made her singles debut for the spring trip in this one, taking on Carthage's Sasha Manojlovic at No. 6, but she fell in straight sets, 2-6, 1-6.

Next up for the Yellowjackets is a move into conference play. They will host UMAC opponents Crown College and Minnesota Morris, Saturday, March 25. The matches will start at 9 a.m. at Lydia Thering Fieldhouse in Superior.
