Westimayer, Foster, Lynch Set School Records Saturday at Ripon

3/4/2023 10:05:00 PM

RIPON, Wis. – Three Yellowjackets set new school records, as the men's indoor track and field team closed out competition on the second day of the Ripon NCAA Final Qualifier Saturday at the Willmore Center.

Ethan Westimayer (Laona, Wis./Laona), who set a new school record in the 200-meter dash earlier this year, broke his own mark, shaving another two-tenths of a second off his previous best, coming across the line with a time of 22.75 seconds. Westimayer's time was good for a third place finish.

After a strong showing in the heptathlon Friday, Earl Foster (Forest Lake, Minn./Spectrum) had another strong effort Saturday, finishing with a new school record by posting 4,182 points. Foster set personal records in five-of-seven events.

Unfortunately for Foster, his record only stood for a matter of minutes, as Garrett Lynch (Portage, Wis./Portage) overtook him and finished with 4,765 points, which was good for third place on the weekend. Lynch destroyed his previous best, and school record with his performance, besting his previous mark by nearly 600 points.

Lynch set personal records in six of the seven events of the heptathlon, including tying the school record in the high jump, a mark that was set by Terry Light in 1971.

With his big performance this weekend, Lynch is in the conversation to make the NCAA field for the indoor championships next weekend. The top 20 point totals in the country make the field, and at one point Saturday, Lynch was sitting 17th.

Sophomore Gage Stankiewicz (Esko, Minn./Esko) placed third in the shot put, with a heave of 14.85 meters. Not far behind him was Nate Ohman (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern), who placed seventh with a mark of 14.20 meters.

Iain Matheson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) also had a top-five finish, placing fourth in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.55 seconds.

The NCAA selections will be released Sunday, with the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships taking place March 10-11 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
