SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) released its weekly award winners Monday, and Yellowjacket freshman
Andreina Tejada (Quito, Ecuador/Isaac Newton) has been named the Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, it was announced.
Â
It's the second time this season Tejada has received the honor from the conference, having also been named the circuit's top women's golfer the week of Mar. 26.
Â
A leader throughout the season for the Yellowjackets, Tejada had a huge week for the Yellowjackets, going 5-0 at No. 1 singles and winning all five matches in straight sets. Tejada lost one game or less in three of her five victories, which included two wins over Bethany Lutheran and one win each against Martin Luther, Crown and Northwestern.
Â
In doubles play, Tejada and
Courtney Brandt (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids Senior) went 4-1, winning at No. 1 doubles over Bethany Lutheran twice, and once each against Martin Luther and Crown.
Â
The lone loss of the week for Tejada came at No. 1 doubles against Northwestern Sunday.
Â
On the year, Tejada is 12-9 in singles play, with all the matches being played as the No. 1 seed. In doubles play, she has a record of 9-9, including a 9-4 mark in matches she has played with Brandt.
Â
The Yellowjackets (10-12, 7-3 UMAC) are playing the waiting game to determine if their season will continue. Pending Monday's result between Minnesota Morris and Martin Luther. A Minnesota Morris win would tie the Yellowjackets and Cougars in the standings, and the teams would play Tuesday to determine who would be the North Division's No. 2 seed heading into the UMAC Tournament this weekend at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
