5/12/2023 10:51:00 PM

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The late-season push for nationals continued for the Yellowjacket men's track and field team, as it competed at the Eagle Open, hosted by UW-La Crosse Friday.

The Yellowjackets, like every other team and competitor in attendance, were using the meet with the hope of bettering their marks to the point where they would qualify for the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

And although nobody with the Yellowjackets qualified with Friday's performances, there were still some strong results turned in on the day.

Senior thrower Nate Ohman (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) had a good day for the Yellowjackets, posting a new personal record in the hammer throw. The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) champion in the event, Ohman had a throw of 49.22 meters to set his new personal mark. Ohman placed 11th in the event. Ohman also had a seveth-place finish in the shot put, finishing with a mark of 14.27 meters.

Garrett Lynch (Portage, Wis./Portage) continued his incredible season, putting up three personal records Friday.

Lynch placed eighth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at a height of 4.41 meters. The mark narrowly missed a new school record. Lynch also set a personal record in the javelin with a heave of 36.93 meters. Lynch just missed a top-five finish, placing sixth. Lynch's third personal record of the day came in the discus, where he posted a mark of 26.96 meters.

Steven Pearson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) had a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.96 meters.

Moving to the track, the Yellowjackets had some success in the sprints Friday.

Will Schorr (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) placed third in the 100-meter dash, coming in with a time of 11.07 seconds. Ethan Bowe (Chetek, Wis./Chetek-Weyerhaeuser) finished 10th in the same event, finishing with a time of 11.25 seconds.

Schorr placed fifth in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 22.27 seconds. Right on his heels was Ethan Westimayer (Laona, Wis./Laona), who was just .02 seconds behind Schorr, finishing seventh.

In the 800-meter run, Yellowjacket David Collins (Ironwood, Mich./Luther L. Wright) set a new personal record, finish his laps with a time of 2:00.25.

Other top-ten finishes for the Yellowjackets Friday came from Kieran Johnson (South Range, Wis./Northwestern) (eighth in the 5,000 meters) and Garrett Kroells (Green Isle, Minn./Sibley East) (10th in the 400-meter hurdles).

In the 4-x-100-meter relay, the Yellowjackets placed second with a time of 43:83 seconds. The team was made up of Pearson, Westimayer, Bowe and Schorr.
