SUPERIOR, Wis. – Saturday afternoon marked the home-opener for the Yellowjacket women's basketball team in the 2024-25 season. Superior cruised to back-to-back victories in their first two contests, while the Scots won their last two games.

After controlling the opening moments of the game, Macalester began to pour on the offensive output and lead much of the contest. Despite the 'Jackets crawling back and getting within striking distance, the Scots held on and emerged victorious inside Mertz Mortorelli Gym.

Game Notes
- MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) got the 'Jackets going after drawing a foul early. Elise Besonen (Ewen, Mich./Ewen-Trout Creek) followed with her first long ball on her home court, before Charlotte Ferstl (Plain, Wis./River Valley) hit a jumper to lead 7-1.
- The Scots tied things up midway through the first, but Kylee Hewitt (Hurley, Wis.) and Hannah Hause (Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd) aided the 'Jackets to maintain a small lead. Macalester drew a foul late in the quarter and finished leading by one at 13-12.
- Superior saw Elsa Olson (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) finish a layup early in the second quarter, taking a feed from Besonen. Ferstl and Leccia logged points of their own later in the quarter, but the Scots came back and regained the lead after ten consecutive points. Entering the break, the 'Jackets were looking at a 10-point deficit at 34-24.
- Macalester held the offensive momentum throughout the third, but Dobson and Emily Coonrod (Hastings, Minn./Randolph) continued to chip away on behalf of the 'Jackets. The Scots were led by Peyton Starks all day, who led the points production and pushed Macalester ahead by 12 at 47-35.
- The fourth quarter began with a long ball from Besonen, before Olson finished a three-point play after taking a foul from Starks. Leccia, Hause and Katie Dobson (Black River Falls, Wis./Black River Falls) brought the Yellowjackets within five, then Hewitt joined the party to come within two points at 62-60.
- With the game coming down to the wire, Hause converted a layup at 63-62 to come within one that prompted a timeout. As the 'Jackets attempted to force overtime, the Scots applied heavy pressure in the final moments of play, but no foul was called, giving Macalester the 64-62 victory.
- Katie Dobson (Black River Falls, Wis./Black River Falls) had 12 points, while Besonen and Leccia ended with 11. Defensively, Hause led the charge with seven boards.
- The Scots logged points early and often inside the paint, generating 38 on the contest.

The Yellowjackets return home Wednesday, taking on Hamline in non-conference play. The opening tipoff is set for 7 p.m. inside the Mertz.
