ST. BONIFACIOUS, Minn. – Last week, the Yellowjacket volleyball team moved into first place in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) following an upset win over Northwestern to close out the home portion of its regular season schedule. The 'Jackets fell out of first place Friday, however, following a grueling five-set loss at Minnesota Morris.
Â
It was a quick turnaround for the 'Jackets Saturday, as they took to the court in the morning to take on Crown College.
Not having a lot of time to dwell on Friday's defeat sat well with the Yellowjackets, as they made quick work of the Polars, defeating them 3-0 in a little over an hour.
Â
With the win, the Yellowjackets improved to 10-2 in the UMAC to go along with a 21-7 overall mark. The Yellowjackets have won eight of their last nine matches.
Â
The Yellowjackets employed a balanced attack Saturday, with 13 different players recording at least one kill.
Makenna Hohbein (Holdingford, Minn./Holdingford), the reigning UMAC Offensive Player of the Week paced the offense once again, finishing with a team-high seven kills.
Colleen Claude (Centuria, Wis./Homeschool) and
Gabi Schwirtz (Plato, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) had 16 and 14 assists, respectively.
Jenna Anderson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) had 20 digs, the only Yellowjacket to reach double figures.
