LA CROSSE, Wis. – Friday evening the Yellowjacket women's basketball team continued the non-conference slate, this time taking on the Viterbo V-Hawks out of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC).
Â
UWS is coming off a week where it fell in back-to-back contests with Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) neighbors UW-Stout and UW-Eau Claire, meanwhile Viterbo brought in a two-game winning streak as the teams met inside R.W. Beggs Gymnasium.
Â
The Yellowjackets suffered an early 9-0 deficit, and turnovers proved to be costly throughout the game as the V-Hawks won by a 72-53 decision.

Game Notes
- UW-Superior allowed nine-unanswered points to open the game. Charlotte Ferstl (Plain, Wis./River Valley) was sent to the line near the midpoint of the first and she got the 'Jackets started offensively. An offensive rebound by MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) saw Elsa Olson (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) drain a three pointer, as she received a pass from Katie Dobson (Black River Falls, Wis./Black River Falls).
- Dobson then hit a three-pointer of her own to bring UWS within five at 14-9, but that would cap the opening quarter scoring.
- After an early three pointer from Viterbo, both teams went scoreless after being unable to capitalize on the opposition's turnovers and steals. Leccia and Dobson would eventually log points for Superior, coming within five points on two separate occasions, but ultimately dealing with an eight-point deficit (28-20) heading into the intermission.
- The Yellowjackets started to gain traction as Ferstl nailed a midrange jumper and Elise Besonen (Ewen, Mich./Ewen-Trout Creek) hit a three pointer at 30-25, but a combination of fouls and turnovers stymied Superior's momentum. For points UWS logged, the V-Hawks would counter, keeping a minimum of ten points in between the Yellowjackets.
- Entering the final quarter with a 47-35 lead, Viterbo scored 25 points to the Yellowjackets' 18 to hold on and earn a 72-53 victory.
- UWS was led offensively by Dobson and Besonen, who logged 15 and 12 points, respectively. Olson contributed eight points, as well.
- Ferstl set a new career high in rebounds Friday, garnering 13 total boards.
- The Yellowjackets held a 46.6 percent shooting percentage from field goal range in the fourth, their best of the contest.
